The movie opens at a public performance of Sarfarosh which is about to be performed by Janvi and her troupe on the eve of her marriage, but comes to a sudden stop when they hear someone calling them from the audience. He is an old man who wants to seek their pardon for his son's mistake, who had stolen their puppets many years ago. Back in the days, Janvi and her father were performing at a village when one of the villagers stole their puppets and left for Mumbai to make his fortune with them. However, the puppets are left to rot in their village. Soon after the incident her father dies of a heart attack and Janvi is left alone with no one to take care of her. Her father's friend convinces her that she has the talent to perform on stage and make it big, but Janvi is devastated by this news. Then one day she finds a puppeteer who gives her hope for a new life. She decides to make it to Mumbai with or without money, but before she leaves the puppeteer gives he two magic dolls which will take care of all her needs till she reaches there. Janvi then leaves the village with the two dolls and reaches Mumbai. She finds work in Mumbai in a government office, where she meets several people who are quick to take advantage of her naive nature. One day when Janvi is about to give up she finds a video cassette in her bag which was given to her by a stranger who offered her 500 Rupees for helping him carry them. The video cassette inspires Janvi to make something creative of her own, but after showing it to everyone around she gets laughed at and ridiculed instead of encouragement. She receives support from Dada Saheb (Ashish Vidyarthi) who works for children's welfare. Dada Saheb gives her confidence by saying that puppetry is also a form of art. He also inspires Janvi to form her own troupe by telling her the story of how his mother started off as a street performer before forming her own troupe. It is then that Janvi experiences the magic of Sarfaroshya puppetry and forms a new troupe with some street children.
